Home Staging the phrase was patented by Barb swartz back in the 70's some say in the 80's but never the less it is a phrase that basically means to get your house in showing condition (like a model home) so when appraisers and potential buyers looks at the listing they will see all your homes bright spots and fall in love with the house and figure you have kept the home up in great condition from the start which in many cases it is true.
Staging is Hugh out in the west like California and is slowly moving east hitting the Midwest like Chicago. Now there still are many many people who never heard of the phrase Staging, So it is up to the Qualified Home Staging Professionals like All In One Staging inc, to start pounding the pavement and handing out flyer and joining your local Leads2Business groups to start educating those sellers who really need our Help to Sell their house & for the Realtors we also need to educate them that we can get their listing sold Faster and for More Money.
I have noticed and heard a lot of people say well I can do what they are doing on T.V, what I tell them is the are only showing you a glimpse of what it takes to become a certified Staging expert. Those shows don't show you how first off you need to be licensed and insured before any home owner should even allow you in their home and that takes money and the money don't stop there, you have to hire a lawyer, an accountant, a web designer, get certified which means go to a accredited Staging school/course and that cost about $2,000 to $3,500 dollars... Wait there is more, you still need to buy props, buy enough furnishing for at least two vacant houses and just look around at your place and think you need 3 more of everything you have in your home, you still need some where to place all of these item right? where are you going to work out of? you need to rent a store front for your business and then there is the question of how do you expect to get all these props to the houses, you will have to buy a truck a van a trailer or pay a moving company to move your props every time you have another account and the list goes on and on with business cards ect.
What I am trying to say is Home Staging is hard work and for the average person to try to stage their own home it will not look anywhere as nutralized as someone who went and learned how to stage a home so the widest potential variety of buyers will like what you have done.
And as far as the HGTV watchers wanting to start their own business just read the above and think twice if you are ready.
Thank you,
